Though augury foretold he would perish on the voyage, Idmon would not stay behind. Among the Mariandyni he went out for straw and a boar gored him; Idas son of Aphareus slew the beast in vengeance.2

Apollonius makes him son of Apollo and the nymph Cyrene and sends him from Argos; Hyginus alternatively makes Abas king of Argos his father — the Argive polis carries the residence entry under either parentage.3⚖
