Galaxy/The codex of Gorgophone

One of the fifty daughters of Danaus — allotted to Proteus son of Aegyptus on the wedding night when the sons of Egyptus came to Argos to claim their brides.1

I

When the sons of Egyptus begged Danaus for his daughters, he consented and allotted the damsels among them. Hypermnestra the eldest went to Lynceus, and Gorgophone to Proteus — both sons of Egyptus by the woman of royal blood Argyphia. Like her sisters she received a dagger from her father and was commanded to murder her husband; Hyginus names her among the brides who obeyed.2
