From close at hand a Dardanian smote Patroclus upon the back between the shoulders with a cast of his sharp spear, even Panthous' son Euphorbus, that had already cast twenty warriors from their cars at his first coming. He it was that first wounded Patroclus; but when he turned to strip the armour, Menelaus son of Atreus slew him and set him to spoil him of his gear.2
