King of Sicyon who married the beautiful Antiope when she fled from Thebes. His refusal to surrender her sparked a war in which he was killed by Lycus.1

When Antiope conceived by Zeus and feared the wrath of her father Nycteus, she fled to Sicyon where King Epopeus took her as his wife. In a fit of despondency, Nycteus killed himself, but on his deathbed commanded his brother Lycus to bring an army to Sicyon and punish Antiope.2
II
In the ensuing war, Epopeus fought bravely but was ultimately slain, and his city was taken. His death allowed Lycus to drag Antiope away in chains to Thebes.3
