In Ovid's telling of the centauromachy, Dictys ran in desperate haste to escape Peirithous, slipped on the steep edge of a precipice, and fell headlong onto a huge ash-tree whose broken spikes impaled his dying body. He must be kept distinct from Dictys the fisherman of Seriphos who reared Perseus (`dictys`).2
