Caeneus was a Lapith hero who fought the centaurs at Peirithous' wedding. Originally a woman, he became invulnerable after Poseidon's gift and was buried alive under pine trunks when the centaurs could not wound him with steel.

Apollodorus tells the transformation and burial. Homer ranks Caeneus among the mightiest men who ever fought centaurs.
Ovid names five centaurs Caeneus killed at the wedding before the pine-trunk end.
