In Greek mythology, Axius (Ancient Greek Ἀξιός) is the god of the Paeonian river Axius (modern Vardar). Homer calls his water the fairest that flows over the earth; by Periboea daughter of Acessamenus he fathers Pelegon, ancestor of the Iliadic warrior Asteropaeus.

I.River of the Paeonians
In the Iliad's Trojan catalogue Pyraechmes leads Paeonians from Amydon and the wide-flowing Axius — "the water whereof floweth the fairest over the face of the earth" (2.849–855). Later Achilles faces Asteropaeus beside Scamander; the Paeonian boasts descent from Axius and Periboea, eldest daughter of Acessamenus (21.140–160).
Later mythography makes Axius son of Oceanus and Tethys and an ancestor-line reaching Euphemus and the hero Eurybarus. The atlas node is the Homeric river-god and father, not a separate catalogue stub.
