Apollodorus lists Automate first among the daughters of Danaus borne on Europe. When Busiris, Enceladus, Lycus, and Daiphron — sons of Egyptus by Argyphia — cast lots for the four Europe maidens, Busiris drew Automate. On the wedding night she received her father's dagger and, like her sisters, slew her bridegroom — Hyginus counts her among the brides who obeyed Danaus.2
