Second-generation Titan son of Crius and Eurybia, consort of Eos and father by her of the strong winds and the stars that crown heaven.1
Bright Eurybia, daughter of Pontus, was joined in love with Crius and bore great Astraeus beside Pallas and Perses. Pseudo-Apollodorus preserves the same three sons in his genealogy of the younger Titan house.2
Eos bore to Astraeus the strong-hearted winds: brightening Zephyrus, headlong Boreas and Notus. After them she bore Eosphorus, the Dawn-bringer, and the gleaming stars with which heaven is crowned. Pseudo-Apollodorus compresses the brood to winds and stars, while Hyginus adds Favonius to the named winds.3
