Son of Arestor, whom Athena guided in building the fifty-oared Argo and fitting a speaking timber from Dodona in her prow — not to be confused with Argus son of Phrixus at Colchis.1

Apollonius makes Athena teach Argus son of Arestor to build the ship at Pagasae; when she set the oak of Dodona in the prow, the timber spoke and prophesied. Acastus came down from Iolcus with this Argus to join the muster.2

Hyginus also names an Argive Argus son of Polybus and Argia — or of Danaus — clad in a bull's hide, builder of the Argo; the name is shared among several craftsmen in the tradition.3
