A nymph who once dwelt on Parnassus and bore the minstrel Thamyris to Philammon — when Philammon refused to take her into his house while she was pregnant, she settled among the Odrysae in Thrace.1
Apollodorus names her as the nymph mother of Thamyris, son of Philammon — the bard who excelled in beauty and minstrelsy and was the first man said to have loved males, for Hyacinth son of Clio.2
Pausanias tells how Argiope once dwelt on Parnassus with Philammon, but when she was pregnant he would not receive her in his house. She went to the Odrysae, and Thamyris is therefore called Odrysian and Thracian — the same mountain country later linked to Autolycus' hunt and the young Odysseus' scar. Her Parnassian mountain dwelling supports the `oread` kind in the dossier inventory.3
