Arete was the queen of the Phaeacians in Greek mythology, the wife of King Alcinous and the daughter of Rhexenor. Homer presents her as honoured like a goddess in the city of Scheria (Corcyra), wise in counsel and skilled in handiwork. Odysseus is told to supplicate her before her husband, and she helps secure his passage home. Apollodorus also credits her with marrying Medea to Jason when the Argonauts called at the island.

I.Queen of the Phaeacians
Arete is the consort of Alcinous and mother of Nausicaa. The people look to her as to a god when she walks through the city, and Alcinous honours her above all wives for her counsel and craft.
Athena instructs Odysseus to clasp Arete's knees when he enters the palace — the suppliant gesture that wins the Phaeacians' pity and the ship that will carry him to Ithaca.
II.Other tradition
Apollodorus records that when the Argonauts reached Corcyra after Thrinacia, Arete performed the marriage of Medea to Jason before they sailed on.
