Amphitrite is a sea goddess and queen of the sea, consort of Poseidon. Ancient sources disagree whether she is an Oceanid daughter of Oceanus and Tethys or a Nereid daughter of Nereus and Doris. By Poseidon she is the mother of Triton.

I.Parentage and role
Hesiod lists Amphitrite among the Nereids born to Nereus and Doris, and later names her as Poseidon's wife and Triton's mother.
Apollodorus includes her both in the catalogue of Oceanids and in the list of Nereids — an unresolved double genealogy preserved in the mythographic tradition.
